SCTT team participated 7/13-7/16

12 SCTT team members traveled to Marengo, Ohio on 7/12/22 to compete at the 2022 SCTP National Championships. This is the largest youth shooting competition in the world and 2022 was a record breaking attendance year with over 3,500 youth athletes, representing over 300 teams from more than 30 states. To put it in perspective, 12+ semi trucks of clay targets were thrown and over 2.5 Million rounds were fired.

Of the 12 team members who attended, the team wants to have a special recognition and thank Braeden Patterson. He was the only senior that attended Nationals this year and he is off to Purdue. Thanks for your years on the team Braeden!

SCTT performed great and a special shout out goes to Gunnar Reed who achieved an individual National Champion title in Doubles Skeet in the Intermediate Advanced division! Congratulations to Gunnar!

At the Texas State SCTP tournament (San Antonio June 2022), Gunnar Reed finished in the Top 5 across multiple disciplines. Gunnar represented the state of Texas at Ohio Nationals and wore a “SCTP All State” jersey with all others from across the country that qualified for their states. Congratulations to Gunnar for achieving Top 5 in Texas and representing SCTT very well!

SCTT also participated in fun side games, Shoot the Flurry and Make a Break. We had a storm delay during a round of Sporting Clays and we missed “Last Competitor Standing” with Trap… but there’s always next year! In another side game, Richard Cismas was selected based on his Doubles Skeet score to compete in Make A Break and attempted to win a new Bettinsoli shotgun. This was a new event this year and even though Richard didn’t win, he made a great effort!

During dinner one night, the team Facetimed with Connor Daily (Skeet Captain) to check in on him after his surgery. He seemed to be doing great and was on the road to recovery before heading off to Texas Tech for his freshman year.

I firmly believe there’s a special bond that occurs with the athletes that travel to Ohio and endure some tough shooting conditions. In general, our team shoots 200 rounds per day (or more) for 4 days straight. They cheer each other on with many fist pumps from our own team and the other teams and parents love to watch them all compete. We dined, laughed, and shared many memories together. The parents also create a special bond with each other. No stories will be shared; however we sure laughed A LOT.
