Dragons Achieve Another 1st Place Win at SCTP Winter Blast Skeet & Sporting Clays

4 Mar by Jeanne Briggs

Ellis County Sportsmens Club in Waxahachie hosted the SCTP Winter Blast of Skeet and Sporting Clays on February 24, 2024. It was a gorgeous day and the Southlake Carroll Dragons rose to the occasion shooting 100 Sporting Clays and 100 Skeet. Ellis County is known for their hard sporting clays stations as they have wide open fields with throwers using regular, mini, midi AND they had battue clays on one station. They like to use a variety of colors: normal orange, green and black making some clays super hard to see or the bottoms are black. Ellis County is a great practice facility for Ohio SCTP sporting clays stations… hint hint.

The shoot offs and tournament results took a really long time but the Dragons hung in there for their medals and team award! Super proud to watch all the smiling faces after the grueling delays. The Team won 1st place HOA due to a technicality.

Coach Brandon suggested to start a new team tradition and this tournament was the first to start it. This new tradition is to give the newer team athletes the winning team trophy on the team’s behalf before we eventually put it in the school case at CHS. Sam Wilson is the first recipient to bring home the 1st place team trophy on the team’s behalf from this tournament and he was all smiles!
